    1. Should Katherine stand around waiting for death to come a calling or take a stand and do something about it? That is the question Burton asks and where our journey begins.Well let me back up a bit. First Katherine who has been plagued by hallucinations her whole life runs out of her meds that keep the little green men at bay. Now that they are making a comeback she gets a cryptic letter from her mother informing her she is adopted. Now to make matters even worse Katherine has always known her mo [...]

    2. 4♥'sThis book is very easy reading, the story flows smoothly. Steamy without being trampy. Clever twists, although somehow a little soap opera toward the end. Maybe HBO soap opera, even. Overall enjoyed it and would pick up other books by this author. The characters were youthful but not too trendy. There were not too many pop culture references to 'date' the book too quickly, but just enough to still get a chuckle at a well placed Twilight reference. "My life is going all Twilight on me and I [...]

    3. Katherine receives a letter from her dead mother 3 day prior to her 24th Birthday. In the letter is a key to a safe deposit box and the information granting her access to the box. All the letter states is that she should open the box before she turns 24. Her brother Geoff and her go and retrieve the box. Inside is a manilla envelope and a leather-bound collection of old documents. She opens the envelope and starts to read what is going to totally change her life. She finds out she was adopted at [...]

    4. Little green men, shocking revelations, a curse, the fae, a changeling, a nymph, a trip to England, betrayal, the return of a long lost love and a new romance come together in this appealing and entertaining paranormal/fantasy mystery romance from Burton. I was pulled into the story from the first few lines and read it in one sitting. The story is told first person from the point of view of Katherine, humorous tomboy extraordinaire, who frequently thinks, "pretty sure I reek of man-repellent." Sh [...]

    5. Broken by David H. Burton is the interesting tale of the choices a young woman must make after learning that her past isn’t what it appeared to be. Katherine always knew growing up that her mother didn’t love her. She had come to terms with that fact until the day she received a letter from her mother – after her mother’s passing. In the letter Katherine learns that she may not have very much time left to live, as the eldest child in each generation dies after they turn twenty-four.Jonat [...]

    6. I was given the book by the author for an honest review, but I had already had this book on my wishlist the minute I saw it on smashwords. XDIt is paranormal romance with Fae, what's not to like?I have to admit that the book was darker than I had anticipated, dealing with gloomy issues and to say that the main protagonist faced lots of hardships is a major understatement.Katherine is only a few days before her 24th birthday and she is surprised to receive a letter from a mother that never really [...]

    7. David H. Burton’s talent for weaving an intriguing, engrossing and magnificent tale explodes in Broken. When I had first read about this novel, I was instantly intrigued. I love a great paranormal story and even though Broken is sub-titled as a paranormal romance, there is not an excessive amount of romance. So those who may be looking for gushy love, no need to apply here. However, there is a bit of a love triangle twisted throughout the story, as well as some steamy scenes which leave the pa [...]

    8. Whoa! Awesome reader’s hook! I knew from the blurb I was going to like this book, and the opening lines just cemented that intent. That reader’s hook is just the beginning, though, and very shortly the initial intrigue is followed by some even more intense shockers. Soon, the mysteries deepen and pile atop each other, and just as one clue is extended, more tentacles of concealment shift in the shadows. I liked the author’s approach in this, of entangling several different skeins of possibi [...]

    9. Broken is the first short story I read in a while. I was looking for something I can get into, but for it not to be very time consuming. I'm so glad I chose this one. First, I want to say that I love the cover. Not many short stories have great covers, but I think this one is excellent. I look forward to seeing Bitten's cover. The characters were fun and interesting, the story line was exciting and the ending was filled with twists, just how I like it. Yes, sometimes things were a bit vague, incl [...]

    10. A good, fun, quick read about fairies mixing with our world. There was a lot of mystery, romance & even some time travel packed into the story. David seems to have a slightly bent view of reality that I like a lot.

    11. In November 2010, I had the opportunity to review Scourge, a self-published work by David H. Burton. This was the book that really sparked my love affair with self/indie published books. I had read (and enjoyed) a few self or indie published before Scourge, but something about David's writing really grabbed my attention. Then, a few months ago, I read David's The Second Coming and Simian's Lair, and I realized that David was quickly moving into my top list of favorite author's. So, of course, wh [...]

    12. (I was given this book for free on a read-to-review basis.)“A letter came by registered mail. It was from my mother. Had she not been dead for three months, it might have seemed less odd.”23-year-old Katherine can’t understand why her extremely efficient mother would arrange for something to be delivered three months after her death; that is until she reads the letter her mother left for her.Firstly she learns that she is adopted, and secondly she finds that a family curse means that she w [...]

    13. For years Katherine has been seeing things, things her mother ends up taking her to numerous doctors for. The doctors conclude it’s a mental issue, shes hallucinating when she sees these things and medicates her to the gills. Katherine ends up living with a roomate, one she never sees but she sees a lot of her roomies brother Chris. Chris brings Katherine a plant, and the hallucinations start up again. She is pretty sure it is medication withdrawl and not the death of her mother, three months [...]

    14. Katherine Gregory shares an apartment with a roommate who’s rarely there. Her roommate’s brother, Chris, is beginning to show a romantic interest in her. And she’s starting to see a little green man hanging around a plant given to her by Chris. It turns out, Katherine had hallucinations when she was a child, but was put on medication to stop them. However, the medication no longer seems to be working. If that’s not enough, she receives a letter from her cold and distant, recently decease [...]

    15. I know I say this a lot, but once I read and like an author’s book, when I read the next one, I kind of hold the author up to a certain standard. In this case, David H. Burton had quite a challenge ahead of him because his novel, Second Coming, was one of the best books I read last year. Even though Broken is quite a different type of story, I was not disappointed in the least! The depth of character Mr. Burton creates is just one of the wonderful things about his writing. His heroes and heroi [...]

    16. Broken: A Paranormal Romance, by David H. BurtonAfter thoroughly enjoying "The Second Coming" and the child in me falling in love with Grim Doyle in "Scourge" I was ready to kiss good-bye being a virgin to the genre of Paranormal Romance to embark on a journey with some of David H. Burton's most interesting characters yet.If you haven't yet read a paranormal romance novel, brush aside any visions of Fabio coming out of retirement, laden with Botox, trying to seduce an alien woman with heaving br [...]

    17. 3 days before her 24th birthday, Katherine receives a letter from her mother telling her of a family curse in which the first born Gregory child is destined to die within their 25th year. With a key to a locked box and new knowledge her mother has secured for her, Katherine must find a way to stop this curse from happening or else she will be doomed to die like her ancestors. This family secret takes her to the UK where she must not only find a way to end this curse, but also decide between her [...]

    18. I was excited to read this book and I was not let down. I do hope there is another book to come! With so much that came to light at the end of this book makes me want to know what happens after EVERYONE sits back and realized just what happened! LOLNever mind being told you were crazy your whole life because you "saw things" then finding out what you were seeing might actually be true! Being told you could die any day because of some curse that has been passed down every generation. While trying [...]

    19. I was very cautious going in to this book paranormal romance has some great names in it. But I was very surprised that it was one of the best books I have read this year. The fey in the book are very true to all the stories I have heard about them. I loved the flow if the book. I find it hard to keep my interest in most books but this one did it without me realizing it was going on. And for that alone I highly recommend this book. There are a lot of books in this genre that leave you feeling li [...]

    20. Thanks to R2R for giving me the chance to read this. I got sucked in very quickly and read it in one day. Burton did a good job with the mix of fantasy and reality. After all, as the saying goes, perception is reality, and that is very apparent here. The twists and layers of deception were handled well and made the reader eager to find out more.Katherine grew up thinking she was crazy and that the things she saw were hallucinations so her mother had her medicated. Imagine her surprise and confus [...]

    21. When I purchased my Kobo in 2012, they offered me one free ebook per month for a year in exchange for joining their mailing list. Broken is one of the titles I received, and the only one I hadn’t yet read, mainly because I’m really not into the paranormal. It wasn’t excellent, and there was no doubt it was self-published, but it was an okay read. I would consider it a YA love story with a twist – but it didn’t seem to have anything to do with the paranormal, as I understand it. It’s [...]

    22. Katherine has been seeing little green men most of her life. Her only reprieve has come with medication to prevent the hallucinations. Shortly before her 24th birthday, Katherine finds out they may not have been hallucinations after all. Overall, I found Broken to be quite enjoyable and a quick, light read. There were a few times, certain aspects of a scene seemed a little disjointed, but it wasn't enough to detract from the overall enjoyment of the read. The premise was unique and not one I had [...]

    23. I am not new to David H. Burton’s tales, having read “Scourge” and “Simian’s Lair” to my children and the online chapters of “Billy Bones”. So I was not surprised by the easy flow of David’s prose in “Broken”.The well-paced story is engaging from the start as the reader follows Katherine through her struggle to make heads or tails of the mysterious curse that has been dropped in her lap. And Katherine does not disappoint. She is written very well with a wittiness and spunki [...]

    24. I would like to thank R2R and the author for the opportunity for the read :) I really liked this one. It reads very quick, though not short, and I really like how the author puts the few little twists and then gives you one big blow out twist at the end! I like this new world, though slightly similar, Fae concept. The characters are well written, with the leading lady giving you a heartbreak just from hear her story and the two leading males with their hotness and mystery! I do love that this lo [...]

    25. David Burton has once again amazed me with a truly enjoyable reading experience. I read this book in one day, I just couldn't put it down! I was drawn into it on the very first page, and the draw never waned. The characters are well developed, entertaining and believable; I particularly enjoyed getting to know Katherine as she journeyed into a world where she was "cursed" to die in her 24th year, and her birthday was just 3 days away. As she struggled to sort things out we were taken on a journe [...]

    26. This was a nice book, quick read. The main character was easy to relate too. The story was somewhat original and it was fun. I really don't have much to say about it. I liked it, and it was well written. It didn't rock my world or anything but I've definitely read worse! It does have some nice twists and turns and I really didn't see the final twist until late in the book and I always see them coming. I'd recommend this to older YA readers (there is one graphic sex scene and continued mention of [...]

    27. The bad people get punished and the good people live happily ever after.I spent a lot of time with my face screwed up in confusionis book didn't make a lot of sense. But it did have one he'll of a sexy foot massage scene!

    28. Loved it! Now I just need more! I won an e-copy of this book through a contest on Wickedlilpixie's website so I want to thank the hell out of the wicked one herself. I love finding new PR authors to enjoy.
