    2. Although Heartland is billed as parable, it is close to allegory, having at least as much in common with the likes of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress as with the stories of Jesus. However, it has none of the features of allegory I so cordially dislike. The unfolding narrative is not made transparently obvious by the names of the characters. Rather, the inherent mystery of the parable form remains intact. There's always the feeling there's another layer to explore, that there are deeps beyond the sur [...]
