    1. In an unnamed midwestern city, Jack St Louis is an enforcer for Lippit, who runs a lot of jukeboxes around the city. They strong-arm business owners (bars, restaurants, ice cream shops) into installing the jukeboxes, then split the money with them. The scam comes, in part, from charging the business owners for repairs, etc. Trouble starts when someone new tries to muscle in on the business, and who is apparently backed by Chicago mob money. 4. Tightly plotted noir. Man caught in the middle of a gang take-over of the juke box rackets, multiple girlfriends and a business partner with a hair-trigger temper. Strong characters. Highly recommended.
