1 thought on “Melinda Heads West

    1. Melinda McCorkle is a restless young woman, longing for adventure, not the staid, predictable life she sees her sisters leading. When her uncle dies, leaving her mother a saloon ‘way out west’, she badgers her mother to agree to let her set out alone to retrieve the deed. Full of ideas of the ‘romantic’ west, Mindy has no idea what is in store for her. From the moment I met Mindy, I knew this ‘lil lady had quite possibly bitten off more than she could chew. With her delicate nose turned [...]

    2. This was a cute historical read with a spunky main character. Melinda is a woman on the brink of a new frontier and possibly a new life. Though dropped into the middle of the story, the plot starts with a lot of action and adventure, though it slows down and settles into a more everyday life feel. The characters are fun, with pretty good interplay between them all. The book had a good historical feel to it, bringing the reader into the American frontier. Though there seemed to be a lot of facts [...]

    3. I really enjoyed “Melinda Heads West” by Robyn Corum. I am a fan of westerns and this had all the elements of a good western. Melinda, Boone, Lucas and some other gents are riding the stage coach west. The terrain being parched and dry was an irritant to all the passengers. However the worst thing happened. A wheel on the stage broke and was unable to be fixed, so the stage drive took the horses and rode out for help. He was accosted by highway robbers and was killed, but the money they were [...]

    4. Description:What happens when a feisty young woman travels west in 1880 to pick up a family deed? If it’s small-town Melinda McCorkle, you can count on luck to take a hike. Mindy is travelling with six strange men in a hard-riding stagecoach. When the coach breaks down, they’re forced to walk the thirty-five miles remaining to her destination. That would be enough to try anyone’s patience, but then the company is set upon by thieves and murderers in the form of the evil Byler brothers, and [...]

    5. The first third of this book was a fun, fast read. It had a Wild West setting and the heroine was endearingly colloquial and direct. I loved the turns of phrase and the down-to-earth tone. This was not your typical romance of beautiful heroine meets handsome hero. In fact, Mindy spends the first part of the book getting progressively scruffier and quite sunburnt, and the 'hero' is quite believably irritated by the presence of a female in the dangerous mess they found themselves in and behaves ac [...]

    6. Melinda Heads West is a fun story full of adventure and mishaps. I really liked the fiercely independent, snarky and stubborn heroine, Melinda. Throughout the book, I cheered her on as she faced one disaster after another with attitude while simultaneously fighting her attraction to two very different cowboys, Boone and Lucas. Lucas is kind while Boone is brooding, her Tormentor as she refers to him. Melinda and Boone butt heads often. Their back and forth bantering is hilarious. I was ready for [...]

    7. Robyn Corum's story is a straightforward and engaging tale of a strong and capable young woman traveling alone through the American West. The characters are full of surprises and made me want to get to know them, especially Boone's mother, an earthy, loving woman. If you enjoy tales of the 19th century American West, you'll most likely devour this fun and entertaining story.

    8. “Melinda Heads West” is set in a different time and place but Robyn's development of each charter makes you feel like you are making the trip with Melinda and the other passengers as they anticipate the next adventurous challenge. This book is an “easy, just for fun read” that can be enjoyed by any audience. Great job Robyn!!--- and thanks for letting me have a sneak preview.
