    1. What a pleasure to read short stories written by such a pro! A friend of mine recommended that I read some of his stories. Why have I not read them before? Excellent structure, good use of language, dynamic characters--and not pedestrian. Ah.

    2. Every few years, I find myself with a book by one of my college professors, and it brings me back to where I'd come from. In a little way it teaches me how to write again, too, because the style is so familiar and this is how I was taught to write (sometimes I can do it, too).There's no shortage of heavy content here. There's everything from bar fights to wars, from office drama to teen depression. In "There's Worse," a mother obsesses over the time she was nearly killed by a nuclear bomb a life [...]
