    1 thought on “Mannequin

    1. I keep switching between three and four stars because despite a couple of things that bothered me about it, I actually quite liked Mannequin. It was a 3.5 read for me, though. It's a very short story (I read it in just over an hour) about a young girl, Elodie Marais and the not-so-glamorous lifestyle she leads as a high fashion model in NYC.I loved the way this book started out. When I signed up for an ARC of this it said it was a "new adult erotica", but I was hoping it wouldn't be just smut.Elo [...]

    2. Even though I was given a review copy from the author, I do not lie in my reviews. I will further explain why I did not like the book in my full review. My full review will be up on my blog soon. *Take note*I am going to be giving the author 4 star in writing and 2 star for plot.My thoughts.Just a reminder. Even though I have received a review copy from the author, It does not give you bonus points, You have to be aware that I always give honest reviews in my blog. I am merciless.I am the devil w [...]

    3. *I was given this copy for an honest opinion*First let me say don't be fooled by the epilogue, it starts off sounding like a fairy tale which may turn some people off but it is not how it continues. This was a fun quick read. It provided good detail on the characters and story and had my favoriteeamy scenes (I'm always a sucker for a good sex scene). Sometimes it was hard to digest that Elodie is only 19 years old. While I was reading I kept thinking she was in her mid twenties but then would rem [...]

    4. OMG wait what? How dare you just end like that!Talk about cliffhanger ending. In Mannequin we see the less then glamours side to modeling. Elodie is a 19 year old model living in Manhattan, she shares an apartment with other models. As we see her going out to clubs and castings Elodie starts to wonder if modeling s really something she wants to do in life. A thought that makes more of an presence after meeting James. James is a young banker who wants to take things slow due to his past. And he i [...]

    5. **I received a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review**3.5 Stars! This is a story about Elodie, who gets discovered by a modeling agency while living in France at the age of 14. Fast forward 5 years, and she is now living the typical model life in NYCdrinking, partying, drugs, sex, not eatingyou get the picture. She gets involved with two totally different men, and has a hard time choosing between their very different life styles. Tyler, a bad-boy model, and James a s [...]

    6. --- Find more reviews at Fifty Shades Of Books ! ---Once again, I discovered Mannequin by Olivia Best via , when I was browsing for new books to add to my collection. It was on sale at that time, I believe, and I thought "why not?". As you can see, the plot is very different from what I tend to read and to review, but I was somehow interested by the "modelling experience" and by how it would be described. So basically, Elodie Marais is a young french orphan with a broken childhood, since she grew [...]

    7. I was sent this book in exchange for my honest review.I thought this book was a tad short. There isn't much of a plot, which is ok as the characters are interesting enough that we can survive the boring life of Elodie Marais, a not-so-great model living a not-so-interesting life. I didn't feel this book was incredible, but for some reason I really liked it. I like that it's easily readable and that you don't really want to put it down. I liked that it wasn't too serious, and I liked that it was [...]

    8. Elodie Marais is a nineteen year old model living in New York trying to make it big. She's an orphan and was discovered in a small town in France by a model scout from London when she was fourteen. She lives hard, parties with drugs and alcohol, and barely eats, lives of coffee and coconut water. She shares an apartment with three other models. (view spoiler)[She's trying to sleep her way to the top, fucking other models and photographs and bookers to get her career going, not allowing her to fee [...]

    9. I was given this book directly from the author to give an honest review. Note: I changed my rating from 3 stars to 2 stars due to the fact that I read this a week ago, and I don't even remember the character's name now which to me makes my rating lower. If the characters could not sustain any memory for me, then it was not a book that I would be interested in reading further. This book revolved around a girl named Elodie who was an orphan living in France. She was involved with a boy who turned [...]

    10. * I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. *Mannequin was a great, less than 90 page read that left me with a lot of questions. I always feel short-changed when reading something that is not that long and as a reader you have to leave a lot of the imagination to figure out what is going on. However, that is not the case with this one. Best really does a great job painting you an intricate picture of both in such a short amount of pages.Enter Elodie Marais, nineteen-year-old high fas [...]

    11. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review This was a very fun short read. The story centers around Elodie -- a young beautiful model with a tragic start to life. She gets discovered at the age of 14 and then gets thrown into the world of international modeling. She lives off of "coconut water" and "bland vegetables" and fills her days with modeling shoots and her nights with partying. She experienced heartbreak at a young age and decided to numb herself to the world un [...]

    12. I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. I had high hopes for this book based on the synopsis. I do that, but the worst part of it is I let myself do it. So Elodie is your typical model--right? She smokes like a tilt, drinks like a fish, does drugs like its going out of style and doesn't eat. Of course, that really bothered me, but I let myself get past that fact because its probably the gut wrenching truth of the modeling industry, and I'm just too daft to look into it [...]

    13. 3.5 stars*I was given a copy for an honest review*Mannequin is a novella or a short read that relates the story of an orphan French girl turned model named Elodie. In it, we also get a glimpse of the not so glamorous side of the modelling world. Okay, so for the first part of the book, Elodie did not feel real to me, there was too much story-telling/narration and not much dialogue that made her cold, flat and lifeless and I was having a hard time connecting to her and her plight (being an orphan [...]

    14. I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.I found Mannequin to be a quick but interesting read. Elodie was born into unfortunate circumstances in France. At the age of 14 she leaves there for a potential modeling career in New York. The book moves to years later, where Elodie is a successful model. Because of her hurtful past with love and upbringing Elodie is forced to act older an her age, especially emotionally. Her two love interests are total opposites. While [...]

    15. I find myself torn between two and three stars on this one, which, when I say it aloud, might be a bit lenient. It's not that the story or the writing was bad, it's just that it was over before it even began. I literally kept swiping my Kindle thinking I had a glitch and it wouldn't turn the page. Eventually I checked the percentage and thought, Huh. It's over. Look at that.I would have liked to have seen more development, not only with Elodie's personality but her thoughts and interactions with [...]

    16. " I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review "This was a short, easy read that I ended up enjoying. It took me a little while to really get into the story though, but I find myself wanting to see how the story ends with the next book in this series. Elodie is a model living in New York City, after being discovered at the age of 14 as an orphan in France. This does not show the glamorous life that many people associate with models. It shows hunger, eating disorders, drug [...]

    17. **I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**Elodie Marais is a struggling model navigating her way in the world of fashion and romance. This book started slow for me but it was entertaining in the end. My main issues were some of Elodie's motivations seemed more plot driven than what a person would do in real life. The first interactions with the male model Tyler are the best example of this. Does that make sense?I do like how the relationship with James is progressin [...]

    18. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Im sorry to say I didn't like the way this book was written, it was written in a of view a narrator telling the story to start with. Then it changed slightly and you got a slight insight into the characters but there was no way enough to determine the characters personality so instantly I didn't like them. It didn't stir up any feelings and the lack of description made it difficult for me to envisage the characters or situations.Ove [...]

    19. I was given this by the author or a honest review. Here we go.I thought this was an interesting read. The character building and the general information given helps gives the readers get an understanding Elodie the main character. This book moves at a nice pace to involve you in the storyline and makes you feel you are with Elodie on her adventure called life. Loved how her story progressed and gives you time to see her grow through her stages between child to young adult. When the steamy parts [...]

    20. In deed a quick, hot, and sometimes disturbing read. Elodie, our main character, is a model fullstop. However, she gets in while she is young and alone in the world, literally. She is orphaned at a very young age and discovered when she is only 15. She goes from being obscure to semi famous in what seems like a blink of an eye. However fame has a price.Elodie, diets on cigarettes and coconut water; which of course every model does, right? She also no longer sees men as people, but as a means to [...]

    21. I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.I loved the prologue for this book. It really pulled me in but I had a hard time staying engaged in the story after that. There were definitely aspects that I enjoyed but something was missing. Personally, I see this as more of a serial novella than a trilogy because it really hadn't gotten anywhere by the end. I'll keep going when the subsequent ones are released as I want to see where the story goes. Now, I will say that I liked the [...]

    22. 3.5 stars. Likes: I appreciated the brutal honesty from Elodie's POV. It was refreshing to have hot sex without fairy tale feelings. Much more realistic, at least in my circle of friends these days. The love interest wasn't a billionaire, alpha-male, Mr. Perfect. So overdone!Dislikes:I could use more character development to relate to Elodie. For example, how does an orphan from a small French village grow to daydream of engagement parties?Elodie is a bit of a twit which makes it hard to like her [...]

    23. ** I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.**I absolutely loved this story!! It was a quick, fun, super sexy read. The main character, Elodie is a beautiful, French orphan who gets signed by a modeling agency following the breakup from her first love. The story follows her to New York and in the arms of two equally sexy men, Tyler and James. It's the classic "good guy/bad guy, who will she choose". While the story is pretty fast paced, Best manages to write in incredible d [...]

    24. Amazing book just took me two days to read, would have only taken me a couple of hours if I didn't have work!!! Amazingly detailed and it left me wanting more! Can't believe Elodie's past and her taste in men ;) ;) All in all a great book, great job!!!!I loved the way the character turned from a small naive orphan to a strong, sexual woman of 19. She fell for a sexy model named Tyler but also found love with a lovable banker named James. A model who wants more out of life is in love(or is it lus [...]

    25. I enjoyed this story. Elodie is a budding model who falls into the stereotypical pattern of getting what she wants based on her looks and her body. There's an interesting triangle between the female character, Tyler, male model she hooked up with early on in her career, James, and the stable guy I found myself pulling for. The author cleverly leaves us hanging at the end, anticipating the next steps as Elodie travels to Paris for a coveted photo shoot, where she will have to endure five days res [...]

    26. " I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review .I had a little trouble getting through this one. The story seemed kinda rushed and it lacked a lot of the character emotional connections I like when reading a book. I felt like I couldn't really identify with Elodie's decisions because I wasn't invested enough in her story. I think this book has the potential to be great if the plot was a little deeper. I think if the author took a little more time developing the backstory [...]

    27. I don't really know what to say about this book. I didn't really have any feelings about it one way or the other. I didn't really connect with any of the characters. The only one I remotely felt anything for was James. The story was way too short. I felt like it just got started and it was over. I think this book had some potential. It just needed to be a little longer and there needed to be more character development. I might read the next one just because this one ended so abruptly. I need to [...]

    28. **I received a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review**3 StarsWhilst this book was well written, it was very short and lacked any real substance. The story covers Elodie, who is an orphan who gets really hurt by her teenage boyfriend. She is then discovered by a modeling agency and thrust into a life of drinking, drugs, starvation (self inflicted). She starts a relationship with 2 men and the rest of the story covers their shenanigans. Very hard topics and the story [...]

    29. Ok Hmmmmm what can I say about this book. Elodie is a girl who believes that the only thing going for her is her beauty and her body. Until she meats Tyler. Enjoyable read Quick read. Would possibly read the second book to see what happens. I only wish I got a little more out of the characters. They are all so shallow. And the one person with any real depth we don't know much about (Tyler )

    30. I was given a copy for a honest review.Sorry if I am a little too late posting it.This is a short story about Elodie (I really love her name!) who leads as a high model. Eventho I like her name, I can't really like her since it was a little hard to relate to her. And the story is kind of light. And the best is the writing! It is really good, I enjoy reading it until the last page. :DI recommend this book to anyone who enjoy easy reading with a little adult scene. :D
