    1. A plea for conservation rather before its time. The impassioned, emotional arguments for allowing species to survive would not stand up against today's hard-nosed antienvironmental critics, but I appreciate her depth of feeling. Though not exactly a picture-book, the full page illustrations accompanying each species' entry are worthy of noting so I included this on that shelf as well.
