(Reading this in German is more difficult, but feels more authentic.)

    2. I remember reading Heidi when I was a very young girl. I now have decided to read a new version in paperback by Alma Junior books. Heidi is orphaned at an early age, Heidi has been brought up by Aunt Dete in Switzerland. Having been offered a job in Frankfurt, however, Dete is forced to entrust her young charge into the care of her grandfather, the reclusive Alp Uncle who lives in the mountains without any interaction with the villagers beneath. The curmudgeonly old man is initially reluctant to [...]

    5. The story tells about a girl named Heidi and her life. The way they have brought out the concept of love, kindness and relationships with family and people around is just beautiful. It makes one feel happy reading the way Heidi feels happy, cares for people and makes you feel very light.

    7. Listening to the unabridged audio in the car. This is one of the books we chose to read over the summer and then watch the movie and compare.b 5/22/16Rated the book 5 stars and the movie 3 stars. The movie with Shirley Temple started out good but towards the end it was completely different from the book and just not as good. Will definitely read again but may not watch again.b 6/3/16

    8. One of my most favourite childhood books.Tells the story about a bright girl who transfers to live to a small mountain town with her sad and rough grandfather. I think it's an amazing book that deserves to be read by the next generations.

    9. Heidi is a young girl who goes to live with her surly grandfather in a town in Wales. She soon begins to love this old man, and at the same time, begins to love the mountains. She becomes friends with a little shepherd boy named 'Peter' and his grandmother. However, one day her aunt shows up at the cottage, ready to take Heidi to a new dwelling in Frankfurt. Heidi is crushed; she doesn't want to leave the mountains and her new family. Her aunt quickly scurries down the mountain with Heidi by the [...]

    10. Just a reread of a childhood favorite. As a child I was taken with the different lifestyle. I was mostly raised by my grandfather until age 8 so I identified with Heidi. As an adult I was impressed with the generosity of Heidi and how she always thought kindly of others, qualities I'd like to enlarge in myself.

    11. I was charmed by the story of Heidi living freely on the mountainside. Luckily it was a sweet story as the didactic sections about Christianity as well as the implications of Clara’s changes are problematic for me.

    12. I have read this book several times. I reminds me of my childhood. I loved exploring and every summer went to the woods of AZ where the lumber jacks worked. My cousin and I roamed the hills and took a lunch with us. I love books about the fun times of children,

    13. I loved this book it's like The Secret Garden but better. I thought it was a little unrealistic but a girl can dream of miracles I guess. I know it's got heart and soul and that the trials Heidi went through got her back to the place she belonged so I'm happy with the way it ended.

    14. This is a children's book I never read, but always wanted to. If you read this in the spirit of your younger self it is charming and fun.

    15. I loved this book when I was a child and my kids are currently reading this as part of their homeschool. They are really enjoying it as well.

Ein we [...]

    18. 5 Stars This book was adorable. <3 I loved it just as much as the tv show I used to watch as a child. The book is identical to the tv show (the book was published first) and I am so glad that they created the tv show without any major changes. I might start with book 2 in a little while. :)

    20. This is a classic.I read it when I was a child, then read it again several time over the years. Now that I have a 7 year old girl, I read it to her every night before sleep. Right now we are reading it for the second time.

    22. I recently re-read this, since I loved it so much as a kid. As an adult it's far too preachy. Still charming, but my eyes glazed over several times.

    23. This is such a cute story! I read it in it's original version (old-fashioned German) and that was fun in and of itself :) Makes me want to go visit the Alps like now!

    26. A bit twee, but a good enough read. I'm sure I must have read this as a child, but don't really remember.
