This book consists of a collection of essays the author, a historian, wrote to commemorate May Day from the 80s through 2011 with an additional essay consisting of the speech he gave upon retiring from academia in 2014. Unfortunately, in general, I didn't think these essays were particularly well-written or well-organized, although the reader can glean useful and interesting bits of information by reading the book.
