    1. A disgustingly fantastic read. Disgusting because it is occasional, but fantastic for its insights. Perhaps more than the helpful statistics and descriptions of child abusers, and the straightforward and logical strategies that he provides for preventing and responding to child abuse at church, I appreciated his starting point: children are valuable. Enforcing policies for protecting children upon a church that doesn't value children is futile, and even more so when this attitude reflects the st [...]

    2. It is a bummer this book had to be written but given the fallen nature of man this is a must read for everyone involved in caring for children. This book is incredibly helpful for understanding the responsibility the church (and other organizations) has to protect the children under our care. It also contains very practical resources for setting up or refining policies and procedures in a children's ministry.

    3. Immensely practical and quite helpful. I am sad that there is a need for resources like this bit I am glad that there is a resource like this. On Guard will help me, my kids, our church. and many others. This is a must read for ministers(all of it) and parents(much of it). Please get a copy, get a copy for your pastor(s), and glean and apply the wisdom found here.

    4. A book like this isn't a fun read. But it is necessary, and Reju does an excellent job. Along with this, I would highly recommend the resources available through the organization Ministry Safe to help any church or church member think through these issues.

    5. Excellent food for thought. I think that every parent, church leader, and children's worker needs to read this book. Good balance of grace and hope with awareness of the world we live in and the ways and means of evil people to access children.

    6. I'll echo what many people have said and say that I hate the fact that this book has to exist. Knowing that there are people out there who would exploit children is not news to me (as I am a teacher and a mandatory reporter that has to do training on this subject each year), but learning how many of them prey on churches absolutely disgusts me.That being said, I wholeheartedly recommend this book for anybody in church leadership. I think it is imperative that churches start to realize the very r [...]

    7. I highly recommend this book for anyone in the position of overseeing children. Whether parent, teacher, pastor, volunteer of a children's ministry, etc.--this book is well worth your time.

    8. This is an important book that church leaders and parents must read. To properly care for our children, we must educate ourselves on the dangers and how to deal with them. This book is a great help.

    9. This is not a fun book, but certainly a good one to read through if you are in leadership at a church or are concerned about your children going to a church's child care program. While there were times where I think the author overstated some of his concerns, I was convinced that I need to think more carefully about the danger of child abuse happening in a church, even one that is fairly small and tight knit. A very sobering but helpful read. It is especially concerned to be practical in impleme [...]

    10. Excellent resource for anyone in Family Ministry or Church Leadership. Reju does well to debunk many misconceptions about sexual abuse and sexual offenders and offers many practical tips to protect the children and families entrusted to the care of the church. Reju is also helpful in providing suggestions for writing a Child Protection Plan and also training families and volunteers to protect children. I highly recommend this for anyone who is seeking to ensure the children entrusted to their ca [...]

    11. Excellent, well-written book covering many of the dangers of physical and sexual abuse that a church may face. The author does a terrific job covering a wide gamut of possibilities, dispels false notions, then lays out practical approaches for dealing with the problems. Although, thankfully, our church already employs many of the preventative measures the book offers there are more ideas we can pursue and compelling explanations for why we do what we do. This is a "must read" for anyone involved [...]

    12. Lots of practical help on thinking through how churches should handle child-care and reduce the risk of abuse; also, what to do if and when abuse DOES happen. Not the nicest topic to think about, but needful for anyone involved in leading the church. I take issue with a few of Reju's assumptions, but overall, I think this is a great book to start the conversation on how a church should handle these arenas and shape their policies!

    13. I think this is a must-read for all church leaders and families today. I was at times surprised by what I thought was a very tough stance on abusers, but the author does his job of alerting the Church to the problem of child abuse and convincingly stressing the Christian priority to protect children and care for victims. Predators target our children in the church, and so we cannot allow ourselves room for naivete. Got me thinking, for sure!

    14. A necessary and eye opening read. This is a very practical beginner's guide on how to begin the process of developing understanding and policies for your church. Begin here but don't stop here. This should spur you on to high child protection standards for your church and community and propel you in handling this gut-wrenching topic with integrity and tenderness.

    15. This is the type of book that you wish didn't have to exist, but nevertheless needs to exist. While I didn't agree with all of his recommendations, overall I thought, as someone who works with children and teens in the church, that this was a helpful and eye-opening resource which every pastor and children's or youth ministry worker should read.

    16. Every Pastor or ministry leader that oversees any type of children's or youth ministry needs to read this and put it's wisdom to practice. I found it to be extremely helpful, practical, and Scriptural.

    17. Reju offers good and challenging advice for how to lead your church in caring well for children in our care.
