    1. A few months ago somebody recommended I should read The Whisper of Stars, saying it trod similar ground to my books. I put off reading it for a while as I was worried about being influenced by another writer’s ideas, but over the Christmas break I decided it was time to have a look. I’m glad I did. If you have read and enjoyed either of my books, I highly recommend you read The Whisper of Stars. It covers similar ideas to those in Second Chance and Absent Souls but in a very different way, a [...]

    2. I received this book through a giveaway, and I'm glad I did. I haven't read in the way of futuristic novels in the last few years, save for a few dystopias that fall into the Young Adult category. This book is geared towards an older audience than many of those, and someone might make a good case for this reading as a part of the growing New Adult niche, or adult Science Fiction. Whatever the case may be, I found its inter-genre nature appealing, and I do love checking in with the self-publishe [...]

    3. This book pretty much sucked. The concept was cool, but the execution of it was terrible! Not surprising, considering this book is self published. The characters were shallow and character development was sorely lacking. I found myself not really caring about anyone in the book, which I'm finding is important to me when reading a book. The author also rushed certain parts of the book that were kind of important, but added annoying descriptions and dialogue in places that didn't need it as much. [...]

    4. I found this book quite by accident on twitter when using a hashtag for free kindle books. I liked the description so I downloaded it. The story sucked me in from the beginning and held me right to the last page. It's well written and plotted and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who loves good dystopian science fiction.

    5. This is the first time I had read a self -published book and I was impressed both by the physical quality of the book I received and the skill of the writer. The author's work is definitely worth looking at, and some of it is also FREE.

    6. Dystopian, action-packed, gut-wrenching tale of betrayal, revenge, love, and death. Smart, tough, female protagonist teamed with smart, reluctant vengeful male doesn't get any better than this. Anxious to move on to the next installment.

    7. Won from Just starting reading and the story has me already the world is not as we know it and you have hibernation as compulsory better to choose yourself than let them choose.Jennifer is a police officer who has to crack down on illegal body swapping is what I'd call it as can course splintering you will understand more as you read .Jennifer has bad dreams but something happens which unlocks that nightmare amd things change she is going to end up on the run not knowing whose on her side .I en [...]

    8. Engaging from beginning to end.The Whisper of Stars will keep the reader engaged from start to finish. People hibernating as a way to address climate change in the future. Awesome and original!

    9. Free e-book on amazonI really enjoyed this story line. It is set in 2091 and the interesting questions that are raised with regards to over population, big brother control over every day life, technology and its effect on the quality of life for the average person.

    10. The Whisper of Stars, is a Science Fiction Thriller by Nick Jones that provides a most unusual and captivating story. The year is 2091 and the world exists with many advances in cloning with an illegal side issue, body transfer that may be temporary (expensive) or permanent (very expensive) with a similar legal dichotomy, except the illegal ones often ‘splinter’ and proceed dangerously, ‘mind extraction’ where information is drained from the human if required, and ‘hibernation’, an ac [...]

    11. A debut author, self-published. And a really good read. There are so many writers out there trying to get their books seen, it's hard to choose which ones to try. I'd recommend this one. It's confident, it's fast-moving, the characters are sympathetic, the story is good. It's very reminiscent of 'Minority Report' (the film) and other dystopian sci-fi films and books set in our world gone to the dogs. Here, Hibernation of the human species is the answer, to preserve resources in a society threate [...]

    12. This appears to be a first effort, and it is a good one. It is best described as lying somewhere between science fiction and fantasy (where depends on your definitions) and is set somewhere near the end of the 21st century. Human population has expanded intolerably, lifetimes are almost doubled, the planet is under pressure, and hence society has taken a novel way out: hibernation. Everyone volunteers to get an implanted chip and report at periodic intervals to be put to sleep, to wake up some t [...]

    13. I won this book on today, what a lovely thing to wake up to. I cannot wait to receive it in the post (soon I hope) and start it!!The cover of this book looks amazing and I suppose it's what drew me into even entering the competition. As I haven't read nearly enough Sc-Fi books I can't wait to get stuck into it and see if I like them as much as I do Fantasy. The blurb after rereading it sounds just up my street with a bit of everything in it.I can't wait to try out Nick Jones as a new author and [...]

    14. A fast-paced futuristic sci-fi techno-thriller with some truly interesting concepts, The Whisper of Stars is the debut novel of Nick Jones (@nickjoneswriter).After a brief prologue that raises questions that won't be answered until much later, the story skips ahead thirty-odd years to 2091. The future as envisioned by Mr. Jones is filled with cool technology but overshadowed by concerns about climate change and dwindling resources. With human survival in the balance, the solution seems to be Hibe [...]

    15. I received this book in a Booklikes giveaway (and it is a signed copy!) Synopsis:The year is 2091. With accelerated warming and global population out of control, the survival of humanity hangs in the balance. On the brink of extinction, science delivers one last hope. Human hibernation. It took me a while to read this book, but it's because I read other books in between. It is not the kind of book I'm used to reading, but I liked this one. This book is really well written, it is captivating. As [...]

    16. The background to this novel (first in a series) is well worked out and the idea is a good one - to deal with the threat of climate change, most of the human population is put into 'Hibernation'. That preserves resources, but as the story develops it's clear that there's another agenda in operation. The hi-tech details are fascinating and well used in the plot, and the action sequences are fast paced and absorbing. However, the pace overall is uneven. It lags a bit in some places, particularly i [...]

    17. This was the beginning of a series. It was excellent. I'd recommend it.I'd recommend this as a stand-alone and as the first in a series It's a science and tech-based novel, where earth stands on the brink of natural crises and needs to make decisions on a global scale. Those decisions and their repercussions for the human populace are the basis of this plot. The heroine is a tough, hard-nosed cop in the future world, dealing with situations her father helped create. This is extremely well writte [...]

    18. The Whisper of Stars by Nick Jones is a futuristic sci-fy story with tons of action and thrills. From the very first page I was drawn into this futuristic world, mainly because Jones does such an amazing job at threading the world building into the action. There isn't a long drawn out narrative of what this world looks like or the differences between it and the time we are in. Instead, bits and pieces are woven into character dialogue and thoughts in a way that feels completely natural. If you ar [...]

    19. This was a giveaway WIN!Just how does an ever increasing population share the finite resources of the Earth? The same way sailors "hot bunk" on a submarine, people go into forced hibernation. A very well crafted tale set in a climate and human population challenged future earth. Oh so credible, the world Nick Jones has brewed. But aside from the strange future world, this boils down to a action packed and suspenseful story. I was sucked into the story from start to finish. You'll be on the edge [...]

    20. I came across this book as a free download and I am so pleased that I did. I have since read all Nick Jones' other books. I can picture them all as films and hope that Nick does achieve success. I will not give a synopsis of the book, there are plenty of those to read. It was like a very up to date "1984" but with a lot more going on too. The characters are good and the pace is fast. I am sad that I have now caught up both with this series and the Downstream story. I am hoping that there will be [...]

    21. I'm rating this a 3.8. I enjoyed this book. The author categorized it a science fiction novel. I'm going to agree with him but I feel like it a sci-fi light book. So if you are one looking for the hard core sci-fi stuff, this book doesn't have that feel. Despite that, it was still a good book. Set in the future, the government is up to no good developing technology that could help or hinder mankindwho knowsad the book! I wish the link between why humans need to hibernate in the future due to glo [...]

    22. Overall, a solid, enjoyable story, with good world-building and a very interesting idea. I loved the mixture of advanced technology, overpopulation and climate change. The story was fast-paced and action-packed and I liked the two main characters. I do wish that there had been more depth to the secondary characters, especially the main villains. I wanted to understand them better. In fact, I would have enjoyed getting to know Jennifer and Nathan better too. This is a relatively short novel with [...]

    23. Awesome Sci-Fi. I'm so pleased to have found this on ! Great characters and story line set in the future where humanity has truly reached the tipping point in destroying the earths ability to heal itself. I found this book entirely believable and possible. Nick Jones has an understanding of humanity that he has woven into the many characters. No one is all good or all evil. Most of us try to do the best we can, many fall into patterns of comfort just moving from day to day and a few have ego's b [...]

    24. I received a copy of this book for free through First Reads."The Whisper of Stars" is an enjoyable book. It is well written, interesting and innovative.I'm not usually one to go for novels containing "strong female characters" of this type, but Nick Jones has come up with a cracker in Jennifer Logan - she is totally believable, and while not entirely likeable (personal opinion!), I did find myself caring about what happened to her.The only downside of the book for me, was that there are no char [...]

    25. There was some good storytelling here, but all too often the setting was just preposterous. Most notably, there's a technological item that might as well be a magic artifact from a fantasy novel. And frankly, this might have worked better as a fantasy book. The idea of countries ceding control to the UN, or of the UN expending massive resources to build hibernation centers, or many other aspects are so divorced from reality as to not be credible as a near-future version of our Earth. While it was [...]

    26. Although it started quite slowly, once things got going it was hard to put down, and this author really knows how to write a cracking ending to make you want more while still bringing the story to a satisfying conclusion. The futuristic setting was quite well done with a government conspiracy to unravel but also other more everyday inventions and extrapolations such as self driving vehicles and mind chips. I liked the heroine and her back story but didn't find her abilities and actions believabl [...]

    27. There’s something about this book. It’s set in the future, but it’s not ‘sci-fi’. It’s a thriller, but it is packed to the rim with mystery and an almost spiritual depth in places. Jen is on a mission, so is Nathan; their paths cross in a time of hibernation and global upheaval, but while their lives start to intertwine it doesn’t evolve in the way you might expect.I absolutely loved it and I couldn’t put it down. Can we have the next book soon please… or make this one into a m [...]

    28. Fantastic! The story is full of all the elements that make for a great sci-fi/fantasy book, and still managed to throw in adventure and mystery for good measure. Story came together very well. Author wrote an extremely unique vision of the future. The devil is in the details, I always say, and the author was a devil! Attention to detail is evident in every chapter. Well written, well laid, and thoroughly enjoyed.

    29. I really need the next book or books finished now haha. Hate waiting and I want to know what happens. Plus it's refreshing to see an author do what he did in this book. I'm sad but it made it interesting. However the typos and unfinished characters was disconcerting. This has potential should he develop the world and not jump through the story. I will read the next and let my book club knows how it ends. Haha
