    1. Oh my god this was so lovely and wonderful. Ahhhh. These books make me so happy I lose the ability to be coherent. I LOVE BELLS. I loved Bells in Not Your Sidekick so of course I had to love him when he actually got his own book. He's so awkward and nerdy sometimes, but he can also be a glorious show off and I adore it all. His general excitement over being a superhero was so contagious and joyful. And can we talk about how brilliant it is to see a black trans guy on the cover of his own book? I [...]

    2. This book made me tear up repeatedly with its beautiful representation and I am just so freaking happy that CB Lee writes books for teens. If you're a librarian, and especially if you're one who serves teens of color, please, please get this series in your library.

    3. In case you didn't know, Not Your Sidekick was my favourite book of 2017, and remains to be one of my favourite books of all time. So, you can imagine how excited and ecstatic I was I was given the privilege to read its sequel, Not Your Villain! I adored Not Your Villain, and I cannot wait to tell you why.I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the first part of Not Your Villain overlaps with the events that take place in Not Your Sidekick, but from Bells's perspective. It was a f [...]

    4. You don't know what you're in for. This was the best thing ever. Bells stole my heart.

    5. I received a digital arc of this book from the publishers through Nergalley in exchange of an honest reviewActual rating: 4.5 starsFull review originally posted on my blog: Word WondersI read Not Your Sidekick not that long ago and absolutely adored it. Short after I finished reading it, I got approved for an eArc of Not Your Villain so imagine how excited I was to pick it up but… life got in the way and I only got to read it around a week ago. That being said, it’s okay, because I ended up [...]

    6. FIND THIS REVIEW ON MY BLOG - ALL MY REVIEWS GO LIVE THERE FIRSTR E V I E WWarning: this is the second book in the Sidekick Squad series. The first one is title Not Your Sidekick and I would highly recommend reading it. It features one of the first f/f romances I ever read and is just so cute.I was so excited about Not Your Villain. I absolutely loved Not Your Sidekick and was stoked to be able to find out more about Bells. However, I kept pushing the book back because I knew I wasn’t in the m [...]

    7. This was still a fun book, but I didn't like it as much as the first one. I think most of that is because literally the first third of this book is recap from the first one. I mean there's some new stuff because it's from Bells' POV instead but a lot of it is literally the same exact scene we've already read with the same exact dialogue we've already read and it just got old after awhile. I understand why the stuff with the training center needed to be there because it tied back in with the endi [...]

    8. 3.5 starsThis was good fun! I was really looking forward to reading Bells's point of view, and it did not disappoint. He's probably my favourite character in the series. Now he's becoming one of the most powerful superheroes, but somehow becomes public enemy number one. This is a problem.Action-packed with superhero stuff and evil robots from start to finish, while also taking the time to talk about some personal storylines - Bells's secret crush on Emma and his feeling like the fifth wheel in a [...]

    9. A Joyfully Jay review. 4.5 starsNot Your Villain is the second book in C.B. Lee’s fabulous Sidekick Squad, following the wonderful Not Your Sidekick. This story starts the summer before the main action of that first book as Bells goes to hero training. Then when he returns home, we get a little bit of a recap of the climax of the first book from Bell’s POV, and then begin to move forward with the next phase of the story. So while there is enough information here you could probably figure out [...]

    10. 3.5Not Your Villain is anticipated sequel to diverse superhero YA novel Not Your Sidekick. The sequel is fast-paced and engaging, I've had great time reading the book. However, I think Not Your Villain suffers from middle book syndrome. While the story was action-packed, it hasn't reach the climax, the book has sequence of exciting events which feel like the beginning of The Action, but it hasn't happened at the end. I have high hopes for the third book Not Your Backup with Emma Robledo as prota [...]

    11. That was interesting! I really enjoyed seeing the different representation of gender, race and sexual orientation and how normal it was. I really like the film references, that was fun. It was great having Abby and Jess together, but it wasn't the same from the first book being that this is a different point of view. I thought Bells was such an interesting character with one fantastic scenes, however, I would have like more of an emotional connection. It's probably just me saying this, maybe it' [...]

    12. I just really need Emma's story bc she might be ace or aro ace or aro and I just really need it *cries*

    13. I loved this second part just as much as the first one. Even tho I missed having the perspective on Jess (and Abby), I loved getting more insight in Bells. He's an amazing character. The beginning confused me at first, because it doesn't start where the first book left off, but does a step back. But soon I actually wished to have an entire book about Bells time in the Superhero training. Also, I love this version of a futuristic/past-dystopian (?) society, all the little things left from our time [...]

    14. The first 100 pages of this book are just a summary of the first book from Bells' POV, which was utterly unnecessary. You could honestly just skip them and only read the last 200 pages and not miss out on anything. But those last 200 pages were really fun and Bells is a great character, so it was still an enjoyable read. And I have a feeling the third book might just be better!

    15. A copy of this novel was provided by Interlude Press for review via Net Galley. Not Your Villain was so sweet. There’s some intense things happening in the story but there is this underlying adorable wholesomeness to this series that I adore, which is why I like it so much.I do have to say that the first 40% or so of Not Your Villain is pretty much a recap of Not Your Sidekick but from Bells's perspective. In some ways it did add to the story because Bells’s background in terms of his superpo [...]

    16. "My body isn't me. I am everything in my mind and heart and what I believe in."actual rating: 3.5 starsThis isn't gonna be a "oooh this book wasn't as good as the first one" type of review, even though I did give it a lower rating. I think the rating difference is just that I've become more demanding of books, when I used to rate depending on how much I enjoyed reading them. I still think that these are books that I would have looooved when I was about, I guess, 15 or 16-ish? That's not me bring [...]

    17. Following up Not Your Sidekick is C.B. Lee's newest book, Not Your Villain. Told from the perspective of Bells Broussard, a newly minted member of the League of Heroes, this novel includes a diverse cast, secret missions, uncover adventures, and ulterior motives galore.I am of two minds about this book. I loved the characters a lot. Getting to know the story of the Sidekick Squad from Bells' point of view was great, as was getting to know the others a bit more, like Emma, Jess's little brother [...]

    18. Reviewed for Just LoveC.B. Lee is new to me but I am so pleased I decided to pick this one up. My only regret is that I didn’t read Not Your Sidekick first, and not because I felt I needed to, but rather, because I think I would really enjoy it. That said, I think Lee does an outstanding job of bringing the reader up to speed with the second in the series so it read well as a standalone but I fell in love with these characters so I need to know all their stories. There’s excellent characteri [...]

    19. Read our full review on Hypable!I’m not sure how to articulate just how much I love and appreciate the Sidekick Squad series by C.B. Lee, but I’m certainly going to give it my best shot. The first novel in the soon-to-be trilogy, Not Your Sidekick, was arguably one of my favorite books of 2016. With several queer main characters, romance, robots, superheroes, and a rollercoaster of a journey from the first page to the last, Sidekick hit all of my bookish loves. And so, when Not You Villain was [...]

    20. AH I NEED NOT YOUR BACKUP ASAP!! So glad I picked this up as my first read of 2018 because IT WAS AMAZING AND EVERYTHING I WANTED!!I love how Not Your Villain began with events in Not Your Sidekick but in Bells' point of view, which I found was a unique way to recap the previous book. I fell in love with the squad even more, especially Bells. He's just so pure and sweet. As I read, I found myself connecting more and more to the characters, such as with Jess' hatred for anything athletic and her [...]

    21. Some people say they liked not your sidekick better I have to say I liked this the same or slightly better. yes the beginning was similar to the beginning of not your sidekick but since bells was doing his own thing I dident mind that. The rest of the story was very interesting as well. The han solo reference was fun.Really really loving this series, very happy its gonna be 4 books in the series.

    22. *4.5 stars* If you're a fan of CB Lee's Sidekick Squad series, and really why wouldn't you be, then like me, you've been anxiously awaiting Bells Broussard's story! I LOVED him in Not Your Sidekick so I couldn't wait for Not Your Villain to get here and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint in the least. Every bit as fun and wild as the first book, Not Your Villain is full of all the fabulous action, friendships, and world building you'd expect and more. I'm not sure you can read Not Your Vill [...]

    23. This series just makes me so, so happy! Representation done right and I’m just so happy things like this exist. ❤️💛💚💙💜

    24. CB Lee's universe is so friendly and warm-feeling without being flat or boring. I was really frustrated with some queer representation in another YA sci-fi recently that felt really surface-level to me, and this book healed over my frustrations. Bells's family are SO sweet and supportive, it makes me want Danny from DREADNOUGHT to have a chance to cross over into this world, just so people can be nice to her constantly. I feel safe with Lee's books, even though oppression hasn't been erased enti [...]

    25. We're back in Andover! This time, we get a book from Bells's point of view. Not Your Sidekick left you at an open ended, and many books continue from that point, but not Not Your Villain. Not Your Villain starts way before Jess's story in Not Your Sidekick began. This book is split in three parts, and the entire of part 1 covers Bells's "origin story" up until the point Jess and Abby arrive at his doorstep to tell him the truth about the League. Then, it's the ending of Not Your Sidekick from Bell [...]

    26. 3,5 stars Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this review copy in exchange for an honest review. Not Your Villain is the sequel to Not Your Sidekick. Instead of Jess, this book focuses on Bells as the main character and as such the start of the book is somewhat different. It starts before the start of Not Your Sidekick, to show the start of Bells life in training for his super powers. The events from the first book are summarized and after that the story is continued on from the first bo [...]
