1 thought on “The Cold Room

    1. Its thriller time and Karen Long has produced a true gut-clenching and dark page turner that had me hanging on for dear life at every wicked turn. The weather is cold, the murders are brutal and cold, and DI Eleanor Raven’s blood runs cold as the bodies pile up and she must play connect the bloody drops while fighting the bureacy of the police department, her own inner demons and the calculating deceit that is threatening to take her down. Is there a connection with her past, a case that broug [...]

    2. The Cold Room is the third book in the DI Eleanor Raven series which I have been dying to read after loving the first two in the series. Karen Long doesn't disappoint with this book it certainly gets a whole lot better.Eleanor is one strong dark independent character and in this story we get to know her past and learn why she is the way she is. This is shown at the beginning where the story starts off describing a gritty past event with Eleanor. OMG what a start, that was it I was hooked and dev [...]

    3. I had the honour of reading this book when it was still in manuscript form and even then I knew what an absolute smash it was going to be. There are some books with the wow factor and this is certainly one of them.Eleanor Raven is left feeling confused and unnerved by a series of murders in Toronto. Drawn into a case involving an army veteran and a human hand found at the scene, Eleanor Raven and her team are not only trying to piece together exactly how the hand came to be in the man's possessi [...]

    4. Read the full review at Musings Over NothingDisclaimer: Thanks to the Author for the free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. The story begins with DI Eleanor Raven undergoing a psychiatric evaluation to she certify that she was fit enough to get back into her groove. She and her partner Laurence Whitefoot are called in to attend a domestic hostage situation that involves an army veteran, where they find a human hand. What they find in the autopsy reports is more than they bargaine [...]

    5. The first thing to be aware of is that this is the third book in a series featuring the protagonist Eleanor Raven. I had not read either of the previous entries and whilst 'the Cold Room' alluded to previous events, it could certainly be read as a standalone novel without feeling that you had missed out on any vital information. Not having read any of the author's previous work I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly she got me on board by avoiding some of the more overused conventions of the g [...]

    6. Karen Long has again brought a dark and sinister killer into her story, it was great to see a couple of cases happening at the same time with even more victims. As usual I enjoy trying to piece everything together and I think the story benefited from seeing a few sub plots interspersed in the story. I really enjoyed the introduction of a previous character it definitely brought an extra level of intrigue to the story. At the start I thought the plot was going in one direction only to turn around [...]

    7. I was intrigued from the start as I got my introduction to Eleanor Raven as she is undergoing hypnosis, perhaps this is some clue as to what has happened in previous books. I will certainly find out shortly as I plan to read the first two books as soon as possible after having read this BRILLIANT instalment.Eleanor would rather just get on with her job but she has to prove that she is fit for duty, hence the psychiatric treatment, but the case that she is drawn into will certainly play with her [...]

    8. Solid, engaging characters.Eleanor Raven is my favourite sleuth since Falco, which is a bit of a jump but im not a big whodunnit reader. She sees her strength as flaws, both her sexual predilictions and the psychological distance which allows her to see the world clearly, a boon in her chosen career. However, The Cold Room starts with Eleanor completing a course of psychotherapy which has made her challenge her underlying assumptions. She is undoubtedly "healthier" (by psychological lights, anyw [...]

    9. Not to be missedI couldn't put this book down, it was a facinating plot that was thick with so many twists and turns you will be dizzy. I have read and enjoyed the first two books in the Eleanor Raven series and would recommend reading these first, just for background into the Raven character and to enjoy how she began. I do hope there will be more from Karen Long, she is in my top ten crime authors!

    10. Karen Long thrillerOnce again I couldn't put this damned book down ,what an exciting book to read. Karen Long is a wonderful writer and certainly keeps me gripped. I hope she carries on and writes more great books. Fantastic.

    11. FantasticThis is the third book I have read from this author, absolutely excellent read, could not put all three down and they were all so gripping. Loved the detective work in the books and how the psychological mind works, plenty of twist and turns.

    12. Thanks to Karen Long for sending me a copy of this book - I loved it!It had the perfect mix of gruesome murders and insight into the characters. This is the first book I've read in this series and I will be buying the previous two asap. I highly recommend this book.

    13. In need of anotherThird in the series and just as gripping as the first book. Truly well written with high suspense a real page turner

    14. Three Point Five Stars. The Cold Room is a murder mystery set in Toronto, book #3 of the D.I. Eleanor Raven police series. It opens with Eleanor reliving a past case and her subsequent psychiatric treatment. Dr Seb Blackmore concludes that Eleanor is now ready to be signed off from his care. The action moves quickly to a domestic violence call, which turns nasty as two police officers are gunned down, and serving Canadian Lieutenant Myles kills himself. Both the crime scene and the autopsy reveal s [...]
