    3. Just received this book in the mail today and finished reading it. This is just a wonderful book for kids to learn about the rainforests of the world. The book is geared towards kids aged 5-9 but I did love looking through the beautiful photographs too! There's a lot of great information and would be a great resource for a child that wanted to learn more about the rainforest/environment. I could totally have seen myself using this fora report when I was younger. I'll be holding onto this so I ca [...]

    4. Seymour Simon and The Smithsonian: a winning combination. Simon continues to write his best in informational text and The Smithsonian provides stunning photos, some with suitable close-ups for the curious and non-squeamish. The format allows for large photos and there are a glossary, index, and a list of links to appropriate internet sites and some of Simon's other books. The only drawback I found was that the photos are not captioned and the reader must glean from the text which photo is being [...]

    5. We are big fans of Seymour Simon's books and we loved the big, glossy photos in this book. We've read several books about rainforests recently, so we didn't learn a lot of new information. Nevertheless, the narrative is interesting and covers a variety of topics from the composition of a tropical rainforest to the flora and fauna who live there. As expected, the rainforest is highlighted, but others are discussed, too.

    6. "Imagine being surrounded by thick walls of green plants. All around you are roots, vines, bushes, and trees." So begins Simon's imaginative look at some of the most mysterious places on earth, written in an engaging way and full of beautiful photographs to keep any reader, any age, deeply engrossed.Who says informational text is boring? This (or any of his many books) would be a wonderful mentor text for how to write expository without putting your audience to sleep.Highly recommended.

    7. This beautiful book is great both as an educational resource and as a coffee table book.We read through the book with our children enjoying the gorgeous high quality photos and the simple narrative on the facing page. But with photos of such entrancing beauty one look is nowhere near enough. My husband and the children would occasionally sit down and pick up the book choosing a a certain photo to examined in greater depth and using it as a jump off point for further discussion.
